Smart Meter Innovation Expert

Responsibilities
You are going to take part to the activities and goals of the Smart Metering Program Team in E.ON Innovation Centre Distribution. Further specifically support E.ON?s Technology&Innovation organization to qualify new functionalities for smart meters to capture new value pools, with particular focus on Connected Home?s products (e.g. Home Energy Management Systems, In-Home Data communications, Demand-side Management, etc.) You will engage with international project teams for smart meter roll outs in regional units across Europe to identify, challenge and assess technology?s availability and costs from vendors (specification, lead time for prototypes and initial samples, etc.) and new product developments.

Further responsibilities is to coordinate activities with Procurement experts and colleagues in other E.ON Innovation Centers (Customer Solutions, Energy Intelligence, etc.), enable technology vendors to meet roll out project expectations/ deliverables by conducting supplier development activities such as market analysis, qualification, development plan, etc. and to act as the preferred technical interface for innovation topics to the regional units and Procurement organization during project development and ramp-up phases. You will develop detailed understanding of suppliers cost structure for additional functionalities, to assist the buyer in negotiations.

Qualifications
Profound technical expert-level knowledge about electricity and gas meters, their design, and their production processes
Knowledge about communication technologies, in particular those relevant to the smart metering platform (power line, point-to-point, radio)
Experience in the operation of metering systems in the utility industry including knowledge about the respective legal framework
Expert-level knowledge and experience in cost engineering, value analysis and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of meters and electronics, with particular focus on cost impact of additional meter components
University degree
Experience in the meter industry and / or utility industry (> 5 years work experience) and experience in an international context
Ability to work and perform in an international environment, in project teams and in matrix structures
Mobility for frequent business trips to Europe countries and occasionally to Low-Cost-Countries as China
English on negotiation level with advanced metering related vocabulary is a must, German, Swedish and/or Chinese is a plus

Given the constraints of cost and mandated minimum functional requirements the successful candidate will be responsible to continuously develop and adapt the meter sourcing strategy by integrating the innovation perspective and focusing on those functionalities that create tangible new business opportunities.
