OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Chief Development Officer reports to the Executive Director and is part of the senior leadership of Tenure Facility. The Chief Development Officer will be responsible for overall development activities, working closely with the Management Team and the Board of Directors to build Tenure Facility’s visibility, financial resources, and donor relationships. The Chief Development Officer will work closely with the Strategic Partnerships Lead to develop and implement a fundraising strategy. The Chief Development Officer should be well‐versed in fundraising strategy, proposal development, donor reporting, communications, compliance, stewardship, and strategic communications designed primarily to influence funders and potential funders and inform Indigenous Peoples and community organisations, and NGO allies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
OVERARCHING RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide support for the development and execution of the Tenure Facility’s fundraising strategy working closely with the Strategic Partnerships Lead, Executive Director, Management Team, and Board members, and other Tenure Facility staff and consultants.
Develop, write, or oversee the writing of, and track proposals for a range of donors, including but not limited to bilateral development cooperation agencies, individual philanthropists, and foundations.
Develop, write, or oversee the writing of, and maintain high quality and timely reporting, and updates to maintain good relationships with partners and donors, especially Tenure Facility’s major donors, and set up a systematic manner of report tracking, and record keeping.
Help to ensure Tenure Facility activities meet the commitments it has made to its donors and live up to their expectations.
Co‐create and oversee the implementation of Tenure Facility’s communication strategy, which is focused largely on donors, prospective donors, and individuals who influence donors and on Indigenous Peoples and community organizations and NGO allies.
Supervise the Development team, i.e. Senior Communication officer, Communications officers, and Development officers, and provide oversight and guidance on the execution of their work.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. TEAM MANAGEMENT
Supervise all the staff and consultants in the development unit and ensure that they fully understand and implement the unit’s strategies.

2. DONOR MANAGEMENT
Strategy
Contribute to the development of Tenure Facility’s annual and multi‐year fundraising strategy, with Strategic Partnerships Lead and the Management Team and Board members.
Work with the Strategic Partnerships Lead and ED to implement the fundraising strategy.
Prepare materials and presentations for the ED and/or TF team, with guidance StrategicPartnerships Lead, for its positioning in conferences and international meetings that advance Tenure Facility’s credibility.

Donor relations, proposal writing, and due diligence.
Manage existing and future donors, especially bilateral and multilateral agencies, and work with Strategic Partnerships Lead and ED on other donors’ engagement for fundraising.
Develop, write, and track proposals for all fundraising activities.
Lead in due diligence of potential donors in terms of alignment of values, the integrity of the institution and potential risks to Tenure Facility’s reputation.

Reporting
Develop and maintain an ongoing database/matrix of all current and potential future donors, and oversee and participate in donor reporting and preparing other deliverables, update donors’ situation or priorities.

Compliance
Work with the COO and CFO to ensure compliance with donor funding requirements and expectations.
Collaborate with the Programs team and Communications team to prepare periodic and ad hoc donor reports as required for compliance with donor requirements.

3. COMMUNICATIONS
Co‐design the communications strategy of Tenure Facility with the Executive Director, Management Team, and Senior Communication Officer, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s overarching strategy and development needs.
Oversee the preparation and promotion of Tenure Facility publications, social media posts, website material, updates for donors, and related material and ensure that it is well suited to achieve the organisation’s objectives.
Ensure that all communication activities operate consistently and ethically within the mission and values of the Tenure Facility and abide by donor requirements.

4. MANAGEMENT TEAM
As a member of the Management Team, demonstrate leadership in strengthening internal and external communications, with staff from different units and at all levels and with partners; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Remote candidates are welcome to apply. The position refers to full-time permanent positions with six months probation period. Starting date as agreed. Salary by agreement.
