Doctoral Students in Communication Studies

The Faculty of Economic Sciences, Communication and IT at Karlstad University invites applications (provided the requisite decisions are made) for one/two positions as Ph.D.doctoral students in Media and Communication Studies.There are three prioritised research areas at the department: - Global Media Studies - Digital Media and Cultural Circulation - Communication, Citizenship and Social Change.More information about MKV, Media and Communication Studies in Karlstad is available at http://www.mediewebben.se Research education includes 240 ECTS credit points, including a dissertation.The doctoral student is expected to perform a certain amount of department work, for instance teaching.These duties may not constitute more than 20 % of the full work time.The doctoral student is expected to be involved in the daily work at the department.The position is limited to 4 years, but can be prolonged for up to one more year.Qualifications Applicants must meet the requirements for general and special eligibility.The general eligibility requirement is the following, a master's degree of at least 240 ECTS credits of which at least 60 ECTS cr are studies at master's level, or if a person in some other way in the country or abroad has acquired largely equivalent knowledge.The special eligibility requirements are courses in media and communication studies totalling 90 ECTS cr corresponding to three progression levels has special eligibility for admission to doctoral studies in media and communication studies.Admission On the basis of individual assessment of the candidates' abilities to successfully complete the research education.Application ref nr FAK1 2010/52 shall contain: - Application package from the University web page: http://www.kau.se/forskning/forskarutbildning/var_forskarutbildning.lasso - List of qualifications with certified copies of certificates etc.- Undergraduate and Graduate essays and papers that are referred to - Any other scientific texts that show the ability of the applicant to profit from research education - Report on practical experience and employment of importance - A brief (1 000 words) description of why the applicant is interested in the position and the main area of interest and goals with the training - Two letters of recommendation.Application with Reference FAK1 2010/52 should be sent to Karlstad University Faculty of Economic Sciences, Communication and IT SE-651 88 KARLSTAD SWEDEN at the latest 2010-05-03.
