Senior Lecturer in English (English for Specific Purposes)
The School of Education, Culture and Communication includes languages, comparative literature, chamber music, education, mathematics and physics, which, taken as a whole leads to a unit with both breadth and depth. More than 200 people are employed by the School, which has a presence both in Eskilstuna and in Västerås.
Responsibilites
The Division for Modern Languages is now seeking to consolidate its strengths in the area of English for Specific Purposes, and invites applications from candidates for a senior lecturership in English Linguistics to teach courses in English, and to take on responsibility for courses in English for specific purposes.
The person appointed to this position will be expected to play an active role in teaching development, and to engage in knowledge transfer with the local community, including both the business and public sectors. The position will include administrative responsibility for some courses.
Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as a senior lecturer, an applicant must have a PhD or corresponding academic qualifications, have undergone training in teaching and learning in higher education, and must also have demonstrated teaching skills.
Those who are to be appointed to senior lectureships must have the teaching proficiency required for the post and also, unless there exist special grounds for exception, have undergone 10 weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education. When teaching proficiency is assessed, planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching is taken into account as well as examining and supervision. Documentary corroboration of teaching skills is required so that their quality can be assessed.
Those who do not fulfill the qualification requirements with regard to training in teaching and learning in higher education and do not have corresponding knowledge will be appointed for one year with the possibility of extension by one more year. If the qualification is acquired during this period of employment, the post can then be converted into a tenured appointment until further notice, on the senior lecturer's request.

Assessment criteria
In making a selection among qualified applicants, research and teaching qualifications will be given equal weight. Equal care and attention will be given to evaluating pedagogical and research qualifications. In assessing research qualifications, particular weight will be given to good theoretical knowledge and practical experience within the subject, publications in international peer-reviewed journals and publication series, as well as and documented experience of research and methodology within the subject.
In the assessment of the applicant's teaching skills, the focus will be on extensive experiences of pedagogical development work, as well as teaching of English for specific purposes.
The successful candidate will document the following qualifications and experience:
- experience of teaching and course development at university level;
- experience teaching in at least two of these areas: technical English, English for academic purposes, research writing, business English;
- experience of team teaching;
- experience of teaching English to students from a range of subject areas.
- native-like command of written and spoken English;
Good competence in Swedish is an advantage.
